The third entry to the "Complex Silence" series comes courtesy of JMMIII (aka Jon 7). This time complex silence is formed out a field recording made on bicycle while touring around the industrail areas of west Eugene, where JMMIII lives. On any given day, metal fabrication shops and lumber mills can be heard dancing their menacing mechanical ballet, which is as much a joy to watch as to listen to.
"Lumbering Drone" takes the sounds of this environment, and through lengthening and processing, creates a hypnotic modulated noise-style of ambient, which whispers rather than screams, rushes and roars in an oceaninc fashion. It's a bit like standing in a windtunnel with seashells sellotaped to your ears.
It's a slightly different take on the "Complex Silence" concept, but curator Phillip Wilkerson felt that it fit well, so here it is for your perusal and enjoyment.
Artists who wish to participate are encouraged to contact Phillip Wilkerson or Jon 7.
With Complex Silence 3, artist JMMIII offers a time-stretched & processed field recording transformed into a gentle wash of white noise, mysterious sounds, & elongated tones. The result is an abstract, yet interesting sonic experience: totally immersive & atmospheric.
